IMAGERY

Ken,

I read your letter in your MySpace blog today, and was immediately
interested in contacting you, because you're in Rhode Island.

I'm actually from Virginia, but have been working with a number of
people in Vermont who have had great success in passing a number of the
impeachment resolutions you may have read about in the news recently.

http://rutlandherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060329/NEWS/603290343/1004/NEWS03

The story was actually run on the AP wire, so it was picked up all over
the country, by major newspapers everywhere. It's been a tremendous
success, and as the story notes, on April 8th, the Vermont State
Democratic Committee will vote on an impeachment resolution, and call on
the state legislature to do the same -- a process we describe here:

and here:

In that second link, you will see that Rhode Island was considered one
of the leading contenders for such an experiment. But we haven't had
much luck identifying individuals interested in carrying the project
forward in your state.

In the several weeks we've spent working on this project, we've gained a
lot of valuable experience in drafting, pitching and passing these
resolutions, and as we near success in Vermont, it's time to begin
looking to other states where people are interested in making the same
statement. These are something more than just symbolic resolutions, too.
Our intent in getting state legislatures to pass resolutions is to
invoke a rather obscure method of setting an actual impeachment in
motion, described in Jefferson's Manual, a sort of interpretive guide to
the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, which I describe in the
links above.

At any rate, along the way, we've put together a lot of the "best
practices" we've discovered in passing this resolution through 8
(hopefully 9, with one vote underway as we speak) county Democratic
committees, plus a growing network of people who can help with
questions, drafting, and outreach efforts necessary to help make your
effort a success.

I'd be more than pleased to help you with anything I can, to get your
effort off the ground. For starters, perhaps you'd like to review this
list of resolutions passed by other bodies, including their text (which
you might use as a model for your own):

So please don't hesitate to get in touch if there's anything I can do to
help!

Sincerely,

David Waldman
